What Would You Do?

I went to visit a friend yesterday after work and something happened that I'm still trying to wrap my mind around. It's been almost a day and I'm still stunned.

A lady was standing in the middle of the street beating a boy not more than 5 years old (found out later the boy's her son). I honestly thought she was going to beat the boy to death. I had to step in (surprising, since I'm a "mind your own business" kinda person) and then I found out why she was beating the boy and then I actually wanted her to beat him some more. I know, I know, that sounds cruel but lemme tell you why.

The lady had walked in on her son with another neighbourhood boy who'd be about 7 years old. (Guess y'all wondering what she'd walked in on them doing. I'm stalling mostly cos I'm trying to find a politically correct way of saying what I'm about to say but since there doesn't seem to be one, I'll just say it like it was). The 7 year old boy had the penis (dick) of the lady's son (5 year old boy) in his mouth (for once in my life, I was tongue tied and I wanted to join in the beating. matter of fact, I wanted to add the 7 year old boy to the beating). Turns out that was the second time the lady had walked in on her son with the other boy in that situation.

I have a whole lot to say about this but lemme ask, if either of them was your son what would you do? (do take note of their ages).

  1. wow, this is so so serious. This is just similar to what I posted in my new blog yesterday. The adulteration of our unique African culture by the Western culture in the form of foreign movies.
    How on earth!
Where else could they learn all this from if not the foreign movies? It has gotten into their heads!
I'd have tied their ears with rope and hang them to a tree branch for passer-bys to give them two lashes each.
    gracias

    1. It's been a couple of days and I'm still in shock. I still don't know what to make of that whole situation. I'd say probably a bit of foreign influence and not so good parenting.

  2. well a serious whooping and put most of the blame on myself as a parent, lets not forget the neighborhood we live in..Felix is blaming foreign culture well i dont. I blame the myself as a parent .. we talking of a 7 & 5 year old here...

Not old enough, kids whos minds are still developing and are learning rapidly from things they see and hear..

Buttom line. beating them on the other hand is not the solution coz hey i`m just lucky to have caught them, for all we know this is a habit and has been on for a while..

so interrogating and getting them to tell me where they saw this and who else is involved coz again they just 5 & 7..

it might be the 20 something year old Mr or Mrs Stupid next door who does this to them and they also decided to practice on their own...

Ps. i gave you an Award... plz see my blog. Thanks

    1. Thanks Didi for the award. Honestly, I still don't know what to make of that whole situation. The usual me would have gone on and on but for once I'm still stunned. I'd say prolly a bit of foreign influence and not so good parenting?

  4. Hi HoneyDame, thanks and glad you loving it. Frankly, me too I don't know what to make of this situation. It really is something else. Don't even want to think about it.

  5. Holy Lord! Na omo ko hu sa adie no wo he? Nsem wo ewia yi ase ooo! I would beat the carp out the child and then seek some form of counselling for the child. Even children have gone mental already? Lord have mercy on us.

  6. Hmmm. Shocking and sad. So young. If d 5yr old was ma son I would make sure he understands dat what he was doing is wrong!! I will punish him first. Then talk. Where has he seen ddis before: tv,family members, teachers, friends, neighbours, caregivers etc. It may not be to bad parenting.

    1. I know Tamie. It really is a shocker. Kids are exposed to a whole lot these days.

  8. The blood of the lamb! Beating the five year old wouldn't solve the problem. I think she has to talk to her son and also the seven year old child. Get to know where the influence is coming from.

    1. I really am curious myself about where they learnt this but flogging the kid would prolly come to mind first before I think of a more rational thing to do. #justsaying

  9. Awwwww the poor kid. and the dear mom. That obviously upset her a lot.
I wont even lie about this; I have no idea what I would do if I were in her shoes. You know how things appear simple till you are deep in the mix.
It is possible that one or both kids have witnessed fellatio. Another possibility is that one or both kids is being sexually abused/molested in that manner.
It might benefit the mom and both boys if the mom calmed down and had a heart-to-heart chat with her son, to find out where he learned that from.

    1. He's not my kid but I was prolly more upset than the mom. I'm sure the mom hasn't even thought about that (matter of fact, neither have I). Good point though.

  11. Wow.... Naughty children!!! Efua, although I'm equally shocked at what you saw, I refuse to blame it entirely on Western media alone. In my humble opinion, it is a lack of adult/parental attention and care.
None of us can deny that we didn't pass through some of these challenges/temptations when we were children. Cast your mind back to primary school. Was every child you encountered totally pure/innocent? We all came from different homes and that alone separated the well-taken care of kids from the ones that had been exposed and lost their innocence. I blame the parental style and the environment in which the child grows in. The mother needs to pay closer attention and monitor what her son does all the time!

    1. Yeah, I'd definitely say a bit of both. Parents really need to monitor their kids more especially now that there are so many not so good influences out there.
